Jody Sasaki
Jody Sasaki, an Oxnard native, is the founder of Sasaki’s Kenpo Karate. Sasaki is an eight-time NBL (National BlackBelt League) world champion. In 1990, 1991 and 1992 he won consecutive titles in self-defense and Kenpo forms. In 2000 and 2001 he returned to competition and captured both NBL world
titles in self-defense. He is also a four-time champion at the Ed Parker International Karate
Championships, one of the most prestigious tournaments in the United States. Sasaki is also a two-time world champion at the US Open Championships shown on ESPN 2. Additionally, Sasaki has trained five world champion and seven national champion students.
Michael Sharma
Michael Sharma owns and operates Sasaki’s Kenpo Karate. Sharma is a 4-time world champion including winning the ISKA US Open Championships (the most prestigious tournament in the world) and a national champion in self-defense. In 2001, 2002 and 2003 he won consecutive championships and was the top-rated competitor in his divisions. He has also trained several national and world champions. Sharma has over 24 years of martial arts training experience.
Destiny Sharma
Destiny Sharma is the Program Director at Sasaki Kenpo. Destiny is a 2nd degree black belt with over 22 years of martial arts experience. As a competitor she won a national championship in Forms and was a finalist three times at the world championships. Destiny is also the head instructor of the Beginner XMA program and an assistant trainer for the Making It Happen Demo Team.
Paul Nowlin
Paul Nowlin is a 5th degree black belt at Sasaki Kenpo with over 24 years of experience. He is a national champion in self-defense and has been a part of several world champion self-defense teams. Paul is the head instructor of the Adult Martial Arts program. One of his proudest martial arts moments was watching his son, Jonathan; earn his black belt at Sasaki Kenpo.
Carl Lepper
Carl Lepper is a 4th degree black belt at Sasaki Kenpo with 12 years of training experience. Carl earned his black belt in 2006. Carl is the head instructor of our Adult Kenpo program. Carl is also a blue belt in our XMA program.
Rick Lopez
Rick Lopez started his training at Sasaki Kenpo in 2005. Rick is a 4th degree black belt, having earned his black belt in 2008. His most memorable martial arts moment, "Being named a Sifu (instructor) in 2010. I never thought that I would be honored with the trust and confidence from my instructors, I am forever humbled by that event." Rick assists with the Adult/Teen Kenpo Classes and Kombat Class.
Brooke Henry
Brooke Henry is a black belt in XMA at Sasaki's Kenpo Karate. The 17-year-old assists with the XMA program. A member of our Making It Happen Performance Team, Brooke earned her black belt at the age of 11. She has 8 years of martial arts experience.
Nena Lucero
Nena Lucero is a 4th degree black belt in Kenpo and a 1st degree black belt in XMA. Nena assists with our Jr. Kenpo, Teen Kenpo and Little Dragon programs. In addition to her martial arts experience, Nena brings experience as an educator to our martial arts classes. Nena is a kindergarten teacher at a local area school.
Mike
Vollmert
Mike Vollmert is a 3rd black belt at Sasaki Kenpo. Mike assists with both the Adult and Teen Kenpo classes. In addition to his martial arts experience, Mike brings decades of experience in the educational system. Having served as a High School Vice Principal, Teacher and his current role as a School Administrator, Mike brings a unique perspective to our studio.
